Coffee Farm:  Finca Malacara B, El Salvador

We have been working directly with Malcara B since 2006. Roberto “Chele” Dumont is one of a long line of coffee producers whose hard work and eye for detail shows in everything he does. Since taking over Malacara “B”, cup quality has improved tenfold.

In 1888, Don Rafael Alvarez Lilinde inherited the property where the Malacara estate resides. By 1900 they had won an award for coffee quality at the Paris Exposition and quickly became known as one of the largest, high quality farms in the Santa Ana region. In 1995, the farm was inherited by three direct heirs of Don Rafael, and divided into three lots: A, B & C. This single origin comes from Farm "B," owned and operated by producer Roberto Dumont.

The farm is located on the northern slope of the Santa Ana volcano, amidst a cloud covered, misty microclimate that creates the perfect environment in which to grow coffee. The coffee is grown in the Santa Ana region of El Salvador at an altitude of 1,500 - 1,600 meters. Orange Bourbon is a natural mutation varietal with bright orange cherries when ripe. It produces well at high altitudes and is a tall, medium-yielding plant.
