We are coffee people.
Torque is a coffee company built by coffee people. Nanelle and Andy Newbom started it after 20+ years in nearly every seat the trade has: barista, roaster, green buyer, cupper, judge, miller, importer. That history is the foundation, not the whole story. The coffee, the producers behind it, and the people who drink it are what it's for.
Why we are
Coffee runs on a double standard. The people who grow it are paid off a commodity floor someone else controls. The people who sell it price with total freedom. Costs roll down to origin. Rewards roll up to the shelf. The chain is not broken. It works exactly as it was built to.
We started Torque to break it. Not with a better story. With a number you can check.
Sweetness wins.
It starts at origin, with the producer's art. Coffee doesn't have a flavor. It has flavors, layers of them, built long before it reaches our roaster. Our job is the roaster's art: amplify and enhance what's already there, never impose a style on top of it. We source and roast for sweetness and complexity, and the roast follows the coffee, not the other way around.
Sweetness wins.
You're the torque
Torque is the force it takes to reach equilibrium. The trade pivots on one axis: the producer at one end, you at the other. Buy a bag and you apply the force.
At least 20% of every bag's retail price remains at origin, in the country that grew it. Always. It goes up on bigger bags, because we eat the bulk discount, not origin. The books are public. You're not trusting us. You're checking our work.
