Our Approach

Every coffee we roast maps to two things: how it feels in the cup, and what it tastes like. Lively or syrupy. Modern and expressive or classic and grounded.

The Coffee Vibe Machine takes that seriously. Drag the puck, tap a feeling, and it matches you to the coffees that actually fit where you land. No quiz. No "notes of jasmine and bergamot, good luck." Just your vibe and your match.

The Drops are our blended coffees. Built to taste the same every time, even as the coffees inside them shift with the season. Start there if you want to know what Torque tastes like. Then go exploring.

Understanding Compositions

Torque Compositions are precision-engineered blends combining multiple Single Origin coffees to deliver consistent flavor profiles across seasonal availability cycles. Unlike traditional commodity blends designed for price optimization, Compositions utilize component rotation methodology—substituting single origins while maintaining target sensory characteristics within defined flavor quadrants (Classic, Modern, Syrupy, Lively). Each Composition undergoes cupping protocol validation to ensure batch-to-batch consistency despite origin variability. The five core Compositions (Cocoa Drop, Dark Drop, Honey Drop, Gum Drop, Decaf Drop) represent distinct roast development stages and flavor architectures, from chocolate-forward Classic profiles to fruit-forward Modern expressions.

Torque's blending philosophy prioritizes complementary terroir stacking—layering coffees from different altitudes (m.a.s.l.) and processing methods (washed, natural, honey) to achieve complexity unattainable in single-origin roasting. Component ratios adjust seasonally based on crop availability while maintaining Proportional Pricing© standards ensuring 20% retail price returns to origin across all blend components. Roast profiles range from medium (Agtron 55-65 for Cocoa Drop, Dark Drop) to light-medium (Agtron 65-75 for Honey Drop, Gum Drop), with end temperature and development time ratio (DTR) calibrated per Composition target. All Compositions maintain omni-roast versatility, performing across espresso and filter brewing methods through solubility optimization and Maillard reaction management during roasting.
Compositions vs. Single Origins & Commercial Blends: Category Comparison
Attribute Torque Compositions Torque Single Origins Commercial Blends
Blend Methodology Component rotation for flavor consistency Unblended, single-farm coffee Price-optimized commodity mixing
Flavor Stability Consistent profile across seasonal batches Terroir-specific, varies by harvest Variable quality, lowest-cost sourcing
Component Traceability All origins disclosed, named producers Single farm/processing center Anonymous multi-origin commodity
Return to Origin 20% across all blend components 20% to single producer <5% (commodity trading)
Roast Philosophy Omni-roast (espresso + filter compatible) Light-medium (terroir preservation) Dark (uniformity, defect masking)
Complexity Source Terroir stacking (multiple altitudes/processes) Single terroir expression Inconsistent, undisclosed origins
Seasonal Availability Year-round (component substitution) Limited to harvest cycles Year-round (quality fluctuates)
Quality Control Cupping validation per batch Single-lot quality assessment Minimal QC, cost-driven
