TORQUE

Torque: the force it takes to reach equilibrium. You're the force.

We're a coffee roaster and shop in City Heights, San Diego, and we still get genuinely hyped when a new lot comes in and the cup is better than the last one. Coffee Lifers, 20+ years in. We source and roast for sweetness and clarity, and keep 20% of every bag at origin. Every cup should amaze you. If one doesn't, that's on us, and we'll remake it.

You don't have to trust us on any of it. You can check our work."

Check The Math

A minimum of 20% of the retail price of every bag of coffee remains in the hands of the people at origin where it was grown. Coffee Producers know exactly what you paid and what they earned.

  • Bag retail: $22.00
  • Stays at origin: (20%)$4.40
  • Always 20% or higher

Sweetness Wins.

It starts at origin, with the producer's art. Coffee doesn't have a flavor. It has flavors, layers of them, built long before it reaches our roaster, and some days we cup a new lot and just sit there for a second before anyone says anything.

Our job is the roaster's art: read each coffee as it arrives and set the roast to bring out what's already there. Time, temperature, airflow, and curves, all in service of the coffee, never imposed on top of it. We source and roast for sweetness and complexity, and the roast follows the coffee, not the other way around.

San Diego Born.

The building's been here since the 1930s. Vinyl in the 70s, underground punk in the 80s, quiet for a while, then us. Come sit in it.

We will have a cup ready for you.

The record.

We roast for the cup in front of you. Medals are the happy recognition that happens along the way. Coffee Review has scored six of our coffees between 90 and 95 points, one landing in their Top 30 Coffees of the year. Golden Bean has handed us medals for espresso, oat milk, filter, and decaf, gold included, across three years running.

We source for sweetness and complexity. Roast on purpose. And always aim to amaze.
