At Torque we intentionally lead with people first. So instead of listing our coffees by blends or single origins we start with the Coffee Producers. We are fully transparent so you can see not only every single origin from a producer but also every blend that uses their beans as well.

The retail price of every coffee is calculated based off the price the producer was paid. 20% of the price was pre-paid to each producer.

Alejandro Martínez | Mexico

Alejandro Martinez is the fourth generation on his family's farm in Xalapa-Coatepec, and he's spending that inheritance on an experiment: rust-resistant varieties planted plot by plot, so he can actually compare what works instead of guessing. Marsellesa and Mundo Maya already deliver, consistently. Anacafe and Obata are the new ones, still finding their voice.

Alejandro isn't just keeping his great-great-grandfather Antonio's farm alive, he's trying to hand his own kids something better than he got.

Faysel Yonnis | Ethiopia

Faysel Yonis runs the Adorsi washing station near Aricha, where 800 smallholder families bring their coffee cherry every season. Eight hundred families is a lot of trust placed in one washing station, and Faysel processes every bit of it the traditional way.

Through Testi Trading he's funded local schools with the proceeds, because for him the coffee and the community it comes from were never two separate jobs.

Jhon Vergara | Colombia

Nestor Lasso and Jhoan Vergara looked at post-harvest processing in Acevedo, Huila and decided the small farmers around them were getting left behind on equipment they'd never afford alone. So they built a shared hub instead, and now every farmer who brings coffee through Peñas Blancas gets the same fermentation precision as anyone with money to burn.

That's not charity, that's two guys deciding the tools shouldn't be the thing standing between a farmer and a great cup.

Francisca Cubillo | Costa Rica

Francisca Cubillo mills her own coffee, which sounds small until you realize almost nobody else in Costa Rica was doing it when she started. Third-generation, organic-certified, and stubborn in the best way, she and Oscar Chacón at Beneficio Las Lajas have been rewriting how the country processes coffee since before it was fashionable to talk about it.

We've been buying from Francisca since 2009, and her processing decisions have rippled out past her own farm to change how the rest of the country thinks about the mill.

Martha Montenegro | Colombia

Martha Montenegro, alongside her coffee-savvy partners, Elias and Shady. Embracing natural coffee processes in 2018, they experimented with fermentation control, pioneering the Koji fermentation process, which revolutionized green coffee production. Together, they're not just brewing coffee; they're catalyzing a community revolution! Their mission? To blend technological innovation with coffee passion, enriching the lives of everyone at El Vergel Estate with a little extra joy and community spirit.

Bahire | Burundi

One hillside, one cooperative, all women, and the name they gave themselves translates to "be well." That's the whole story of this coffee before you even get to the volcanic soil or the altitude.

The Bahire farmers work through JNP Coffee and they've built something rare: sweetness and clarity in the cup that comes from a group of people who decided to grow it together instead of alone.
