  • Farmer Equity:

A special and very rare combination of both a processing set and a new varietal!

This coffee is an extremely rare cultivar from their Laboratory Farm that grows new cultivars. The Rume Sudan was selected as part of Maria Pacas Incunables program which is the highest scoring, most remarkable coffees. They are vacuum packed into 15kilo bags and boxed to preserve every bit of the volatile compounds. We decided to bring in the same lot processed two distinct ways to showcase how varied a rare and unique coffee varietal tastes when it is processed as both a washed and natural processing method. Plus they were just both too good to not buy both! We ended up buying almost everything Maria produced this year of this rare laboratory varietal. We bought the coffee directly from Maria and flew it straight to the roastery last week to get this rare coffee into our hands as fast as possible.

This is a rare opportunity to taste the impeccable farming and processing that Maria Pacas and her team does and experience a new and upcoming varietal. Rume Sudan has been making waves all over in Barista competitions and auctions. It tends to have a unique and fascinating combination of super sweet and sweet savory flavor notes.

Think earl grey and pu-ehr tea, with sage and rosemary blending into sweet paprika and even tropical fruits, pineapple, papaya, mango and loads of brown sugar.

And to make this set doubly fascinating Maria did both a washed and a natural process on the same day lot! So you get to taste this crazy new varietal processed two different ways.

Proportional Pricing

Out of the $400 billion coffee industry, a meager 5% stays where it's grown, leaving farmers with crumbs. At Torque, we're rewriting this injustice. Our radical approach ensures equity for coffee producers, shifting power dynamics.

Here's the game-changer: Coffee producers were pre-paid a guaranteed 20% upfront based on the retail price of their coffee. Simple. Transparent. Fair. We call it Proportional Pricing©. Pay more, they earn more. This reshapes the value equation.

No more opaque systems. No more exploitation. We start with the value you see on the shelf, ensuring 20% flows back to the hands that cultivate your cup. It's called Proportional Pricing©, a seismic shift in coffee's worth chain. It's farmer equity, pure and simple.

We're breaking norms, building a fairer future. Torque Coffees reverse-engineered the chain, advocating for a balanced, equitable industry. It's time to empower those who make your coffee. Together, let's dismantle inequality in the coffee world.
